Katla is a very easy available, economical ,healthy fish and macher jhol is the most popular dish of Bengal.I modified and experimented macher jhol with oranges and named it with katol komol

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Katla fish 8 pieces
  2. Mustard Oil 6 tbsp
  3. Orange juice 2 cups
  4. salt as per taste
  5. Onion 1 small size (paste)
  6. Cashew nuts 4-5 pieces (paste)
  7. Ginger Paste 1 Tsp
  8. Tomato puree 1 cup
  9. Turmeric powder 1 tbsp
  10. Red chilli powder 1tsp
  11. Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  12. Cumin powder 1 tsp
  13. Garam masala powder 1/4 tsp

Instructions

  1. First marinate the piece of fishes with salt and turmeric .
  2. Heat mustard oil and shallow fry the fishes and keep aside.
  3. On that same oil add onion paste , ginger paste and fry for while.
  4. Now add tomato puree and again fry for sometime.
  5. Now add all the spices (powder) except garam masala powder , and again fry it for sometime.Add water as per requirement and keep it for a while
  6. Now add fish , cashew nuts paste ,salt, cover with a lid and cook until the fish cooked properly.
  7. Lastly add orange juice and garam masala cook for 20-30 secs.
  8. Serve hot with plain rice.
