Traditional Bengali mungdal- This recipe is pure veg recipe without adding onions and garlic. Bengalies cooked mung dal basically in two ways 1. Bhaja munger dal or fried moong dal preparations and 2 kancha moonger dal or without frying the dal. In this recipe I add green peas and coconut with fried sona moong dal (small grained moong dal)
Tasty as well as healthy.
Wash moong dal
Heat kadai and dry roast the dal then add termaric and green peas and pressure cook it or cook it in a covered container to boil.
Heat mustard oil and add bay leaf and green cilli stir for a while and add mince ginger and fry.
Add chopped coconut and fry.
Add cooked moong dal with green peas, add Salt and Sugar and cook for 5 minutes.
Heat ghee( for chhauk or tarka) add cumin seeds and a Whole Red cilli let them fry. When the fragrance appeared add it to the cooked moong dal. Spread all over and cover it with a lid.
Leave it for about 5 minutes.
Serve with Steamed rice brinjal or parwal fry and curry.
