Drumstick Leaves (Moringa / murungai Keerai) is (probably) the most nutritious of all greens. Ayurvedic belief insists that regular consumption of Moringa leaves could possibly save you from cartloads of diseases and keep you healthy.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Drumstick Leaves: I had a roughly large bunch weighing around 280 grams. The leaves alone including the tender stems weighed approximately 150 grams (6oz).
  2. Coconut-1/2
  3. turmeric powder - a pinch
  4. garlic -3 pallu
  5. cumin seed- 1tsp
  6. green chilly 1-2
  7. salt as required
  8. water -2tbsp
  9. Coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Remove the drumsticks leaves from the stem. You can use the tender stems. Wash and give it a rough chop.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. add leaves , salt and 2 tbsp water. cook the leaves for 5 minutes. allow the leaves to cook completely. The leaves will cook quickly but will not become mushy or slimy.
  3. grind coconut along with cumin, garlic and green chilly into coarse texture.
  4. add grinder mixture into leaves. mix well and add little more coconut oil above it.
  5. Serve warm along with any South Indian main course menu like Sambar, Kuzhambu and Rasam. Don't forget a healthy dose of freshly homemade ghee to along with it :)
