Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Raw rice - 1.5 cups
  2. Moong dhal - 3/4 cup
  3. Water - 10 cups
  4. Green chillies - 6
  5. Garlic - 6
  6. Shallots - 6
  7. pepper - 2 tsp
  8. Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
  9. Ginger chopped - 2 tsp
  10. Cashews - 10
  11. Oil - 3 tbsp
  12. Ghee - 2 tbsp
  13. Curry leaves - few sprigs

Instructions

  1. TO GRIND
  2. Take 6 chillies, 6 garlic pods, 6 shallots, 1 tsp pepper and 1 tsp cumin seeds and grind to a fine paste with water
  3. METHOD Pressure cook the WASHED rice and dhal with the given water and grind paste for 7 whistles After 7 whistles, mash the pongal well with a laddle
  4. TEMPERING
  5. In a pan, add 3 tbsp oil and 1 tbsp ghee.
  6. Add 1 tsp Pepper, 1 tsp cumin seeds and chopped ginger and cashews
  7. Add some curry leaves Add the tempering to the hot pongal
  8. Aromatic Tanjore Style Ghee pongal ready to serve
