ABOUT Doi Mouri Rui (Rui fish in a curd and fennel gravy) RECIPE

Delicious curd based fish curry flavored with Asafoetida and fennel seeds paste. A simple, light and flavorful everyday fish curry.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rui fish 3-4 pieces
  2. Curd 1/2 cup
  3. Fennel seeds paste 2 tablespoon
  4. Asafoetida a pinch
  5. Ginger paste 1 teaspoon
  6. Green chillies 2 -3
  7. Bay leaves 2
  8. Dried red chilly 2
  9. Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  10. salt as per taste
  11. Sugar to balance
  12. Mustard oil

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish with salt and turmeric powder for half an hour.
  2. Take mustard oil in a Kadai and lightly fry the fishes from both sides and keep aside.
  3. In a bowl take curd, turmeric powder and fennel seeds paste and mix well.
  4. Add more mustard oil in the Kadai, add in dried red chillies, bay leaves and Asafoetida.
  5. Add the ginger paste and green chillies.
  6. Lower the flame and add the curd mix and mix it continously to prevent it from curdling.
  7. Add warm water, sugar salt and bring it to boil.
  8. Place the fish slices and bring it to simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  9. Turn off the flame and keep it covered for 10 minutes. Serve hot with rice.
