ABOUT Onion Rawa Uttapam RECIPE

It is like a pan cake but a salty, spicy and a little thick. It can also be made with dosa batter and topping can be of different vegetables.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup Rawa or sooji
  2. 2 tbsp Rice flour
  3. 2 tbsp (safed) Urad dal flour
  4. 2 tbsp Curd/ Yogurt
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Water as required
  7. For the topping:
  8. 2 Onions, finely chopped
  9. 3 green chillies, finely chopped
  10. Coriander 2 tbsp finely chopped
  11. Oil as required

Instructions

  1. Take a mixing bowl and mix together rawa, rice flour, urad dal flour and curd.
  2. Make a medium thick batter, cover and keep the batter for 3 hours to ferment.
  3. Add salt just before making the Uttapams.
  4. Heat a tawa and grease it with a little oil, wipe it with a soft cloth or a tissue paper or even with an onion piece.
  5. Pour the batter in the center then with a ladle spread it out in a circular motion, making it into a disc.
  6. Sprinkle onion, green chillies and chopped coriander on top.
  7. Put some oil on the sides. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side.
  8. Then flip it over to other side. Again put some oil on the sides.
  9. Cook further for 3-4 minutes on low heat.
  10. Take out on a serving plate . You can serve this with any Chutney or Sambar of your choice.
