ABOUT Kerala style Fish-raw mango curry RECIPE

This is a typical kerala style fish curry which i learnt from my Mom who hails from kannur, a small city of kerala.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1 kg Rawas/king fish pieces or any fish of your choice
  2. Salt
  3. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  4. 2-3 Green chilly,slit
  5. 2 - Onions chopped
  6. 1 tsp ginger chopped
  7. 2 tsp garlic paste
  8. 1 /2 cup raw mango cubed
  9. 3 tsp Red chilly powder
  10. 2 tsp sambar powder
  11. 2 cups coconut milk or ground coconut masala to fine paste
  12. Mustard seeds
  13. curry leaves
  14. 8 fenugreek/ methi seeds
  15. Salt to taste
  16. Coconut oil 2 table spoon

Instructions

  1. Wash and clean fish pieces and marinate with turmeric and salt for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat coconut oil in a pan, add mustard and fenugreek seeds, let it splutter ,then add curry leaves, ginger and onion and saute for couple of minutes or till onion turns to light brown colour.
  3. Add green chillies and mango pieces and saute for a minute.
  4. Now add garlic paste followed by chilly powder and sambar powder. Mix it well. Add little water and bring it to a boil.
  5. Add marinated fish and slowly mix it with the masala and cover it with a lid . After 5 minutes open the lid and add coconut milk or coconut paste. You can adjust the consistency of the gravy by adding little water. Check for salt and let it boil on low flame for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Turn off the flame and serve hot with plain boiled rice.
