ABOUT Multi Lentil Garelu - Wholesome goodness RECIPE

This is a traditional telangana(A state of A.P) recipe made on the eve of Sankranti/ pongal..its dunked in Kheer n eaten for authentic feel...but tastes great without kheer as well.. Multi Lentil Garelu.... Is awesome for this cool winters....Heartfelt thanks to my MIL for introducing this to me..... A real good combination of dals, whole wheat n touch of heat from Chillies makes it one of a kind ..

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. ½ cup chana dal
  2. ½ cup moong dal
  3. ½ cup urad dal
  4. ½ cup rice flour
  5. ¾ cup wheat flour
  6. 8 to 9 gr.chillies
  7. 5 to 6 sprigs of coriander
  8. 2 sprigs of curry leaves
  9. 2 inch ginger piece
  10. Water as required
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Oil for Deep frying

Instructions

  1. Dry grind the dals coarsely and add rice flour, mix them thoroughly. Next Add enough water and make a thick dough like batter.
  2. Now set this aside covered for at least 4 to 5 hours ...
  3. Next make a fine paste of ginger and green chillies in a blender. Add this paste to the batter along with salt, chopped curry leaves, coriander leaves and wheat flour.
  4. Mix this well, add water if required but please keep in mind that the consistency of the batter should be thick. Now the batter is ready to be used.
  5. Meanwhile start heating up the oil in a kadai or frying pan. Apply a little oil on to the ziplock bag and onto u r fingers, next take a golf sized dough, place it on the greased ziplock.
  6. Pat it with your fingers to form a poori shape and make a hole in the centre. Now lift it carefully and put in hot oil.
  7. Fry until golden on both the sides. Take it out on a paper towel.
  8. Garelu are all ready to serve plain / with green chutney / ketchup/ Kheer
