Idli is one of the healthiest breakfast for our kids and young ones as well. My daughter loves idli-sambhar a lot. Try this easy and healthy recipe at your home.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. For idli-
  2. Samolina (rawa) 500 gm
  3. Curd 1/2 cup
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Baking soda 2 tablespoon
  6. arhar dal 1 cup
  7. Red lentil ( laal masoor dal) 1 cup
  8. Bottle gourd ( lauki) 1 cup
  9. Pumpkin 1 cup
  10. Green chilli 2
  11. Tomato 3
  12. Imli (tamarind) puree 1/2 cup
  13. Red chilly powder 1 teaspoon
  14. Lemon 1
  15. Curry leaves 8-10
  16. Oil 4 tablespoon
  17. Sambhar masala 1 tablespoon
  18. Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  19. Dry red chilly 2-3

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl and add in rawa,curd and salt and mix well.
  2. Add buttermilk or water to make thick idli batter. Add in 1/2 teaspoon soda and 1 tablespoon oil and mix well.
  3. Let the batter rest for at least 1 hour.
  4. Chop bottleguard and pumpkin. Add the veggies and dals in pressure cooker.
  5. Add in salt,turmeric powder and water and cook for 3 whistles.
  6. Let the pressure release. Now cook with open lid. Mash the veggies.
  7. Saute chopped tomatoes and green chilly with salt, red chilly powder,sambhar masala in a separate pan.
  8. Mix the tomatoes and imli puree to the cooker and boil. Add more water if needed.
  9. Prepare tadka for sambhar. Heat oil. Add in mustard seeds,curry leaves and dry red chillies. Add this tadka to the sambhar.
  10. Take idli moulds and greese them with oil. Boil water in the idli cooker.
  11. Take half of the idli batter in a separate bowl. Take 1/2 teaspoon soda in a ladle and add in few lemon drops. Add it in the batter and mix.
  12. Pour this batter in idli moulds and steam the idlis for 10 minutes.
  13. Check idlis with a knife.
  14. Idli-sambhar is ready to serve.
