Maavinkaayi Gojju, a lip smacking mango curry that goes really well with steamed rice , roti and dosa… It is tangy, sweet and a spicy curry.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 2 nos - Raw Mango (Totapuri)
  2. 1 tbsp. - Urad dal
  3. 1 tbsp. - Chana dal
  4. 1/2 tsp - jeera
  5. 1/2 tbsp. - Methi seeds
  6. 1/4 tsp - Turmeric
  7. 4 nos- Dry red chilly
  8. 1/4 cup - Fresh grated coconut
  9. 1.5 tbsp - Jaggery
  10. Salt to taste
  11. 1 tbsp - oil
  12. 1/4 tsp - Asafoetida
  13. curry leaves
  14. 1/4 tsp - Mustard Seeds

Instructions

  1. Chop two raw mangoes and cook the mango pieces in little water and turmeric till it is softened.
  2. Dry roast fenugreek seeds and powder it in a blender.
  3. To this add dry roasted urad dal, chana dal, Red chilly, jeera.
  4. Add 3/4th of the cooked mango pieces, jaggery, salt, fresh grated coconut and blend it into a coarse paste.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan and Add mustard seeds and let it crackle.
  6. Add red chillies and curry leaves and hing. Let the curry leaves crisp up.
  7. To this add the ground paste and let it boil.
  8. Add 1/4 cup water into the mixer jar and add the water to the gojju and cover it and boil it till it thickens.
  9. Let it cool and store it in a jar and refrigerate.
  10. Serve it with hot steamed rice and ghee.
