ABOUT Appam RECIPE

These lacy soft hoppers are popularly served for breakfast in Kerela .

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 cups Rice washed
  2. 1 cup Parboiled/ boiled/ idli rice
  3. 1/2 cup Poha/aval (parched rice) or cooked rice
  4. 1 cup Coconut (grated)
  5. 1/2 tsp Dry active yeast
  6. 2 tbs Sugar
  7. 1 tsp Salt
  8. Oil as required

Instructions

  1. Soak rice and parboiled rice in water for 4-5 hours.
  2. Drain and grind together with grated coconut, cooked rice or poha/aval, dry active yeast,sugar and salt.
  3. Add some water and grind all ingredients for a smooth batter.
  4. Pour the batter in a large bowl and keep aside for fermenting for 8-12 hours.
  5. The next day the batter will increase in volume and rise.
  6. Heat oil in a kadai or an appam pan.
  7. Spread a spoonful of the batter. Cover the pan and let it cook till the base becomes light golden
  8. Serve the appams hot or warm with vegetable stew or sweetened coconut milk.

Can we make in normal kadaai?????can we use normal rice also
