Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup Arhar dal (toor dal or split pigeon peas)
  2. 2 tablespoon Peanuts
  3. 5-6 cup Water
  4. For the dough:
  5. 1/2 cup Whole wheat flour
  6. 1 tablespoon gram flour
  7. 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  8. 1/2 teaspoon Red chili powder
  9. a pinch Hing (Asafoetida)
  10. 1/4 teaspoon Ajwain (Carom seeds)
  11. Salt to taste
  12. 1 tablespoon Oil
  13. For tempering:
  14. 2 tsp oil
  15. Pinch of Asafoetida
  16. 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  17. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  18. 1/2 cup tomato chopped
  19. 1 green chilly
  20. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  21. 1/2 tsp garam masala
  22. Few curry leaves
  23. 1 tsp ginger
  24. 1 tbsp lemon juice
  25. 2 tbsp fresh coriander
  26. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  27. 2 tbsp peanuts
  28. 1 bay leaf
  29. 1" cinnamon stick
  30. 1 tbsp jaggery

Instructions

  1. ADD 1 CUP WASHED ARHAR DAL, SALT TO TASTE IN A PRESSURE COOKER
  2. ADD 3 CUPS WATER, COOK FOR 4-5 WHISTLES
  3. BLEND THE COOKED DAL, SET ASIDE
  4. TAKE 1/2 CUP WHEAT FLOUR, ADD 1 TBSP GRAM FLOUR, 1/2 TSP EACH OF RED CHILLI & CUMIN POWDERS
  5. ADD SALT, 1/2 TSP CAROM SEEDS, 1/4 TSP TURMERIC POWDER, 1 TBSP OIL
  6. MAKE A STIFF DOUGH ADDING LITTLE WATER AT A TIME
  7. COVER & SET ASIDE FOR 15 MINS
  8. HEAT 2 TBSP OIL, ADD A PINCH OF ASAFOETIDA, 1/4 TSP CUMIN SEEDS, 1/2 TSP MUSTARD SEEDS
  9. ADD 1 BAY LEAF, 1 CINNAMON STICK, 2 DRY RED CHILLIES, 2 TBSP PEANUTS, SAUTE FOR 2 MINS
  10. ADD A FEW CURRY LEAVES, 1/2 CUP CHOPPED TOMATOES, 1 GREEN CHILLI, 1/2 TSP RED CHILLI POWDER
  11. ADD 1/2 TSP TURMERIC POWDER, 1 TSP GINGER, COOK FOR 3-4 MINS
  12. ADD THE TEMPERING TO THE COOKED DAL
  13. ADD 3 CUPS OF WATER, 1 TBSP JAGGERY, SIMMER ON LOW HEAT FOR 7-8 MINS
  14. KNEAD THE READY DOUGH AGAIN, MAKE SMALL BALLS
  15. ROLL INTO THIN ROTIS
  16. CUT INTO DIAMONDS
  17. GET ALL THE DHOKLIS READY
  18. ADD THE DHOKLIS ONE BY ONE TO THE BOILING DAL
  19. LET IT BOIL FOR 10-15 MINS, TAKE OFF HEAT
  20. ADD 2 TBSP FRESH CORIANDER, 1 TBSP LEMON JUICE, MIX & TRANSFER TO A SERVING BOWL
  21. TRY IT, IT'S YUM
