ABOUT Missi Roti RECIPE

Traditional Punjabi dish which is healthy as well as yummy . Perfect dish for monsoon.

Ingredients Serving: 7

  1. Whole Wheat Flour 1 cup
  2. Gram flour 1 cup
  3. Salt as required or 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Water 3/4 cup to knead
  5. Caraway seeds 1.5 teaspoon
  6. Turmeric powder 3/4 teaspoon
  7. Red Chilli Powder 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Ghee 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon
  9. For filling :
  10. Onion finely chopped 1 cup
  11. Green chillies finely chopped 1.5 tablespoons
  12. red chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon
  13. Salt as required
  14. Dry mango powder 1/2 teaspoon
  15. Other Ingredients :
  16. Ghee 3 tablespoons for frying rotis

Instructions

  1. Take 1 cup whole wheat flour in a wide bowl .
  2. Add 1 cup gram flour .
  3. Mix the flours well with fingers .
  4. Add salt as required .
  5. Add 3/4 teaspoon turmeric powder .
  6. Add 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder .
  7. Add 1 .5 teaspoon caraway seeds .
  8. Add 1 tablespoon ghee .
  9. Mix all for 3 minutes .
  10. Add required water . Knead to a semi stiff dough .
  11. The dough is ready . Smear ghee . Keep it covered for 10 minutes .
  12. Take 1 cup finely chopped onions . Add 1.5 tablespoons finely chopped green chillies .
  13. Add 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder .
  14. Add 1/2 teaspoon dry Mango powder .
  15. Add salt as required .
  16. Mix all together and keep aside .
  17. Make medium sized balls ought of the dough .
  18. Spread a ball to medium thickness roti .
  19. Take 1 tablespoon prepared onion filling . Sprinkle on the roti .
  20. Now roll the roti along with the onion filling . Onions , chillies get inserted into the rotis.
  21. Heat a iron tawa to smoking point . Reduce flame . Place the roti on the hot tawa . Let it sit
  22. until upper side puffs slightly . Flip to another side . Spread a teaspoon ghee .
  23. Cook until golden brown spots appear . Repeat steps to cook rest of the Missi rotis .
  24. Punjab famous traditional Missi rotis are ready to serve . Serve with yogurt or pickle.
