ABOUT Chakolli RECIPE

Chakolli is a popular dish in the southern part of india especially kerala and tamilnadu.This is prepared with rice flour and meat,but in particular shrimps.This dish is usually cooked during family gatherings and festive times.This taste heavenly when taken hot.

Ingredients Serving: 7

  1. Rice flour - 4 cup
  2. Shrimps - 1 kg
  3. Shredded Cocunut - 1(Keep 3 tablespoon for garnishing)
  4. onion - 3
  5. Small onion - 10gm
  6. Tomato - 1
  7. Ginger garlic paste - 2 tablespoon
  8. cloves,cardomam and cinnamon - 2
  9. Fenugreek seeds - 2 tbsp
  10. Turmeric powder - 1 tablespoon
  11. Chilli powder - 2 tablespoon + 1/4 tablespoon
  12. Fennel powder - 3 tablespoon + 1/4 tablespoon
  13. Coriander powder - 2 tablespoon + 1/4 tablespoon
  14. Jeeragam powder - 1 1/2 tablespoon + 1/4 tablespoon
  15. oil - 1/2 cup
  16. salt - As required
  17. Curry leaves - handful
  18. cocunut - 3 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Grind the coconut along with fennel powder, turmeric powder, cinnamon stick,chilli powder,cumin powder and 1 cup water into a smooth paste. Keep aside.
  2. Clean and wash the prawns.Keep it aside.
  3. In a wide cooking pot, add water and salt.After a minute,add the grinded mixture to it and allow the water to boil.Add the rice flour and stir it occasionally to form a dough as shown below.
  4. Let it cool down for a while.Kneald the dough well as shown.
  5. Grease your hands with oil. Take an inch long of the dough and make into round shape by rolling in between your palms. Repeat this procedure until you have the entire dough made into small rounds, keep aside.
  6. In a deep bottom pan pour oil and add cloves,cardomam and cinnamon.After a minute add ginger garlic paste and saute it well.
  7. Add onions,green chilli after raw smell disappears and saute them well.Add tomatoes.
  8. Add the cleaned prawns to the mixture.
  9. Add 2 tbsp chilli powder,1tbsp turmeric powder,2tbsp coriander powder,3 tbsp fennel powder and 1 1/2tbsp coriander powder.Add salt.
  10. Add 6 cups of water and add the chakolli balls to it.Close the lid and simmer the flame.It will take around 45 minutes to cook.
  11. For seasoning,take a pan and roast 2 tbsp fenugreek seeds.Keep it aside.Pour oil in the same pan and add small onions.When they turn brown in colour add curry leaves.Pour it over the prepared chakolli.
  12. Garnish the chakolli with shredded cocunut.Chakolli is ready to be served.
