Delicious Kerala Fish curry cooked in turmeric and coconut milk, this is one of the curry that's frequently made at my home

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 500g Firm Fleshed Sea fish
  2. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Lemon juice 1 tsp
  5. Onion 1 large thinly, sliced
  6. Tomato 1 small sliced
  7. Ginger 1 inch piece crushed
  8. Garlic 2 cloves crushed
  9. Black Pepper Powder : 1 tsp
  10. Thick Coconut milk -1st extract ½ cup
  11. Semi Thick Coconut milk - 2nd extract ½ cups
  12. Thin Coconut Milk - 3rd extract 1 cup
  13. Mustard seeds : ½ tsp
  14. Curry leaves : 2 Sprig
  15. Green chilies 3 slit
  16. Vinegar 1 tbsp
  17. Coconut Oil 2 tbsp +1 tsp
  18. Additional Oil for Shallow Fry

Instructions

  1. Marinade the fish with salt,lemon juice and turmeric and keep it aside
  2. Heat oil in a pan and slightly fry marinated fish pieces (50% cooked) on a medium heat and keep it aside.
  3. Heat 2 tbsp coconut oil in a earthen vessel and splutter mustard seeds
  4. Add the ginger, garlic and saute for a minute.Add the sliced onion, curry leaves, green chilies and saute till it becomes soft and translucent.
  5. Add the tomatoes and saute for a minute.Add the pepper powder and simmer the heat
  6. Add thin coconut milk and salt and mix well.Add the fried fish pieces carefully, cover and cook the fish for 3-4 minutes
  7. Add the 2nd extract - semi thick coconut milk and hold onto the sides of the pan and swirl it until the fish is well totally immersed in the gravy. Let it cook slowly for sometime till the fish completly absorbs it. Do not use laddle as fish pieces might break
  8. Add the thick coconut milk and cook on low heat for a minute and gently shake vessel so that it gets mixed. Do not stir fish with any spoon or ladle. Switch off
  9. Add vinegar and gently shake vessel. Drizzle 1 tsp coconut oil on top. Serve hot with rice
