ABOUT Paneer Bhapa(Steamed cottage cheese) RECIPE

Paneer bhapa is one of the delectable delicacy from the Bengali kitchen.It is an authentic Bengali cuisine.Paneer, a piquant zing of ground mustard, an euphoria of grated coconut, a scorching violence of chillies, a sinful splash of mustard oil, a loving mix, a patient steam.And the Bhapa is ready.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Fresh paneer - 250 grams
  2. Mustard paste- 3 table spoon
  3. Grated coconut - 3 table spoon
  4. Whipped curd - 2 table spoon
  5. Slit green chillies - 3
  6. Turmeric powder- 1 tea spoon
  7. Mustard oil -2 table spoon
  8. Coriander leaves(chopped) -1 sprig
  9. Sugar - 1 tea spoon
  10. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Cut the paneer into small cubes and put them into a steel tiffin box.
  2. Mix all the ingredients including mustard paste,curd,green chillies,turmeric powder,mustard oil and coriander leaves with the paneer cubes.Also mix 2 table spoons of grated coconut to it and keep aside rest of it for garnishing. Adjust seasonings.
  3. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  4. Take a wide mouthed pan and fill half of it with water.
  5. Switch on induction or gas oven(which one is comfortable.I used induction) having the water filled pan on it.Steam over medium heat(300-600 degree centigrade) for about 8 to 10 minutes.
  6. Cap the tiffin box tightly and put it into the pan.
  7. Put a lid on the pan and after 5 or 6 minutes there will be vapour on the inner side of the lid.
  8. Take off the lid after 8 minutes and wait till the box gets cooler.
  9. Uncap the box once its get cool.
  10. Finish off with the freshly grated coconut.
  11. Serve hot with steamed rice.
