Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Toor + masoor Dal 170 grams
  2. Water 3 Cups
  3. green chillies 3
  4. Kashmiri chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  5. Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  6. Coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon
  7. Curry leaves 10 to 15
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Ghee 3 tablespoons
  10. Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  11. Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  12. Sugar / jaggery 1 teaspoon
  13. lemon juice 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Wash , soak toor + masoor dal for 15 minutes .
  2. Cook toor masoor dal with 2.5 cups water to a finely mashed dal consistency .
  3. Add salt to the cooked Dal .
  4. Mean while , in a tadka pan , heat 3 tablespoons ghee .
  5. Crackle Mustard seeds and cumin seeds .
  6. Add curry leaves .
  7. Add green chillies .
  8. Add turmeric powder ,
  9. Add Kashmiri red chilli powder .
  10. Add coriander powder .
  11. Add 1/4 cup water to the tadka . Mix quickly without burning .
  12. Remove from the heat .
  13. Now reserve a small tadka portion for later use .
  14. Pour the remaining tadka mixture to the Dal .
  15. Add sugar / jaggery .
  16. Simmer and cook for 5 minutes .
  17. Finally add the reserved tadka portion on top of the Dal just before serving .
  18. Add extra ghee as preferred .
  19. Add lemon juice while serving .
  20. Serve hot with hot steamed rice .

It goes well with boiled rice.
