Mutton curry Bengali style. Its an all-time favorite Sunday meal.. quintessential for Bengalis

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 500 gm mutton
  2. 1/2 cup curd
  3. 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  4. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  5. Red chilli powder 1.5 tsp
  6. Coriander powder 2 tsp
  7. Cumin powder 1 tsp
  8. 4 onion grinded to paste
  9. 2 tomato grinded to paste
  10. 2 green chilies grinded to paste
  11. 1 bay leaf
  12. 1 tsp methi dana
  13. 3 potatoes peeled and halved
  14. 1 tsp ghee
  15. 4 tbsp mustard oil
  16. 1 tsp bengali garam masala (clove, cinamon and cardamom dry roasted and grounded to powder)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the washed mutton with curd, ginger garlic paste, turmeric, tomato paste, red chilli powder, coriander and cumin powder , chilli paste, , and 2 tsp oil. For 2 hours minimum
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Fry the potatoes till golden. Keep aside.
  3. In the same oil. Add bay leaf and methi dana. As they splutter. Add onion paste. Salt and sugar. Coik for around 3 to 5 min
  4. Add marinated mutton and cover the pan let it cook on low heat for around 20 min. Stirring occasionally.
  5. After 20 min put flame a bit higher and fry the meat till oil oozes from sides.
  6. Now put 2 cup water in cooker start boiling . Into it. Add the meat and fried potatoes. Mix well.
  7. Close the lid. Cook till 4 whistles. Once the presure releases. Open the lid add 1 tsp gjrr mix well. Add the bengali garam masala. Mix well. Cook for 2 to 3 min more.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  9. Serve with hot rice..
