ABOUT Goan Prawn Curry RECIPE

It is a popular dish of Goa, here prawns are cooked in coconut milk and other spices. The delicious Goan curry tastes great with steamed rice.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Prawns (Medium sized) - 500 grams (washed and cleaned)
  2. Oil - 1/4 cup
  3. Curry leaves - 5
  4. Coconut milk - 2 cup
  5. Onion-1 (chopped )
  6. Kokum - 2 flakes (special ingredient of Goan cuisine, if you do not find it, then use tamarind pulp - 2 tablespoon)
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Turmeric - 1 teaspoon
  9. Vinegar - 1 teaspoon
  10. Ingredients for ground masala
  11. Garlic - 5 cloves
  12. Ginger - one inch piece
  13. Cloves - 4
  14. Coriander seeds - 1 teaspoon
  15. Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  16. Kashmiri red chillies - 4
  17. Coconut - 1/2 cup grated

Instructions

  1. Marinate prawns with salt, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder and vinegar.
  2. Combine all the ingredients of ground masala and make a paste using little bit of water.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves and chopped onion, fry until light brown.
  4. Add ground masala and fry, add vinegar, tamarind or kokum .Add salt and turmeric powder.
  5. Cook for 2-3 minutes on low flame until the prawns are done.
  6. Add coconut milk, bring it to boil. When it starts boiling, simmer it for 2 minutes.
  7. Add skin of kokum to add some more flavour, switch off the gas.
