ABOUT VEG OATS UPMA RECIPE

Oats are good for health and one of the healthiest foods on earth. It is very low in calorie and helps in weight reduction. Also, oats helps to improve digestion and reduces the risks of blood pressure. Hence I try to experiment with oats recipes regularly. Oats, sometimes called as the common oats, is a cereal grain grown for its seed, which is known by the same name. While oats are suitable for human consumption as oatmeal and rolled oats, one of the most common uses is as livestock feed. Oats are a nutrient-rich food associated with lower blood cholesterol when consumed regularly. Oats are good for health and one of the healthiest foods on earth. Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 2 cups 300 gm rolled oats
  2. 1 small onion
  3. sliced 5 green chilies,
  4. sliced 1 carrot,
  5. diced 1 potato
  6. diced 1 capsicum
  7. diced 1 tomato
  8. ½ cup whole moong dal
  9. curry leaves few few coriander leaves, [chopped]
  10. 1 ½ cups water (or as required)
  11. 1 tbsp oil
  12. 1 tbsp lemon juice
  13. salt as required

Instructions

  1. Dry roast oats in a non-stick pan for 2 minutes, once they turn a light brown, off the flame and set aside. Firstly, in a pan, heat 1 tbsp oil, add 1 tsp cumin seeds, wait till the cumin seeds crackle.
  2. Now add finely chopped onions, green chillies, sauté for few seconds. Then add chopped carrots, potato, capsicum, tomato, soaked green moong dal and cook for a minute or two. Then add few curry leaves and add roasted oats. Stir lightly.
  3. Then sprinkle 1 to 2 cups of water slowly. Adjust the consistency by adding a little more water and allowing the oats to soften further. Or you may take it off the heat and serve or pack it for later. Add required salt to taste.
  4. On a low flame steam the oats breakfast covering with a lid for 5 to 6 minutes. Furthermore squeeze some lemon juice. Mix gently
  5. Finally, oats upma is ready. Serve hot with onion raita and some salad.
