Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Mutton - 1/2 kg
  2. Chana daal - 1/2 cup soaked for an hour
  3. Black cardamom - 2
  4. Black peppercorns - 2-3
  5. Cinnamon - 1 inch
  6. Bay leaf - 1
  7. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  8. Onions - 2 medium finely sliced
  9. Tomato - 1 small chopped
  10. Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
  11. Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  12. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  13. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  14. Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
  15. Green chillies - 2-3 chopped into chunks
  16. Coriander leaves - for garnishing
  17. Salt - to taste
  18. Oil

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker, heat oil and add cardamom, peppercorns, cinnamon, bay leaf and cumin seeds. Saute for 30 seconds
  2. Add onions and fry till it turns golden brown in colour
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell disappears
  4. Add tomatoes, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt. Cook till tomatoes are fully mashed up and oil separates
  5. Add the mutton pieces and saute on high flame till it changes colour
  6. Add 2 cups of water and pressure cook till mutton is 3/4 done, don't cook the mutton fully
  7. Add the soaked daal and pressure cook again till daal and mutton are fully done and oil separates
  8. Sprinkle garam masala powder, green chillies and coriander leaves. Simmer for 5-7 minutes
  9. Serve hot with roti or rice
