ABOUT Plain Dosa... RECIPE

Simple and plain dosa is a favourite breakfast of many people in the South. It is no more just related to it's region of origin and has become popular far and wide within the country as well as outside it. A complete meal in itself, it is very healthy and filling too. It can be fed to the very young children and the elderly too because of it's soft texture. By far it remains the favourite of me and i do hope yours too.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Raw rice 2 cups
  2. Black gram or urad dal 3/4th cup
  3. Bengal gram or chana dal 2 tbsp
  4. Fenugreek seeds 1 tsp
  5. Salt 1 tsp
  6. Oil 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. Soak rice and dal separately for 6 hours or more.
  2. Add fenugreek seeds and bengal gram to dal while soaking.
  3. Grind them separately as well.
  4. Add salt and leave it to ferment overnight.
  5. The batter should be semi thick with a flowing consistency.
  6. Heat a heavy iron griddle.
  7. Pour a big ladleful of the batter and spread it in clockwise motion.
  8. Drizzle oil on the sides and on the top as well.
  9. Cook until crisp and done.
  10. The edges will start folding up easily and this is the proper time when you remove the dosa onto a serving plate.
  11. Serve them hot with split pea chutney/putana dal chutney or any chutney of choice.
