ABOUT Kanda Pohe RECIPE

Traditional Maharashtrian breakfast. Easy to prepare, require less ingredients, and healthy.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Poha or flattened rice - 1 1/2 cup (washed and drained completely.)
  2. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  4. Curry leaves - 4-5
  5. Onion medium - 1 finely chopped
  6. Green chillies - 2 roughly chopped
  7. Finely chopped coriander leaves - 1 1/2 tbsp
  8. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  9. Sugar - 1 tbsp
  10. Oil - 1 tbsp
  11. Roasted crushed peanuts - 1 1/2 tbsp
  12. Fresh grated coconut - 1/2 tbsp ( Optional)
  13. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a wok or nonstick pan heat oil. Add mustard and cumin seeds. Let it splutter.
  2. Add curry leaves and chopped onion. Cook till translucent.
  3. Add roughly chopped green chillies and finely chopped coriander leaves. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add salt and turmeric. Stir it.
  5. Add sugar. Mix well till sugar dissolves.
  6. Add washed and completely drained poha or flattened rice. Mix it.
  7. Add roasted crushed peanuts and grated coconut. Mix gently.
  8. Garnish it with lemon wedges. Serve hot with a cup of tea or coffee.
