Instructions

  1. Mix all the first four ingredients in a pan.
  2. Mix well and heat it on a high flame at first.
  3. As soon as it starts bubbling, lower the heat.
  4. Keep stirring continuously and cook on a low heat for nearly 30 to 35 minutes.
  5. As soon as it starts leaving the sides of the pan and comes together as a solid mass, add the yellow colour.
  6. Mix well and switch off the flame.
  7. But before switching off, test whether it is done or not, drop a little bit of the halwa on a plate and try to make a ball out of it.
  8. If it easily forms a ball without sticking to the plate, it is done.
  9. If it sticks to the plate and is difficult to form into a ball, cook for a further 5 minutes or so.
  10. Take a butterpaper and take out the halwa onto it.
  11. Put another butterpaper on top of it and roll when it is still hot.
  12. Roll very thinly, as thin as possible.
  13. Sprinkle cardamom powder and mixed nuts.
  14. Again roll once so that the dry fruits stick onto the halwa.
  15. Refrigerate until an hour or so.
  16. Slice into square shapes along with the butterpaper.
  17. Enjoy it chilled.
  18. Keep the rest in the refrigerator in an airtight container and use within 3 days.
  19. For the colourless or plain halwa, do not add any colour. The process remains the same.
