Dal Makhni is one of the most popular North Indian dishes. This Dal Makhni recipe is restaurant-style and its taste is delicious. It is made by mixing sabut urad dal (whole black gram) and rajma (red kidney beans). If you and your kids love authentic Punjabi food, then you are going to love this Dal Makhni.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Whole black gram (sabut urad dal) - 1/2 cup
  2. Red kidney beans (rajma) - 2 tbsp
  3. Onion - 1 large (finely chopped)
  4. Tomato puree - 2 medium
  5. Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
  6. Cumin Seeds - 1 Tsp
  7. Green Chilli - 2-3
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Cloves - 2-3
  10. cardamom - 2-3
  11. Black cardamom - 1
  12. Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
  13. Bay leaf - 2 small
  14. Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  15. Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  16. coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  17. Garam masala - 1 tsp
  18. Butter - 3 tbsp
  19. Amul cream - 4 tbsp
  20. Coriander leaves to garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak urad dal and rajma together overnight in 4 cups of water
  2. Boil the soaked dal and rajma in 3 cups of water with salt. Let the cooker whistle twice and let it simmer for 2 minutes and then switch of the flame.
  3. Heat butter in pan. Add cumin seeds and when the cumin seeds sprinkle, add chopped green chilies and the whole spices.
  4. Now add chopped onion and saute, till it becomes golden.
  5. Add ginger garlic paste; also add red chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder and mix it well.
  6. Now add tomato purée and saute until oil comes out.
  7. Then add drain and cooked dal and rajma. Add some water as per your quantity. Mix it well.
  8. Lastly, add garam masala and Amul cream. Mix it well and cook for 10 to 15 minutes in low flame.
  9. Serve hot and garnish with Amul cream and coriander leaves.
