ABOUT Menasina Gatti / Red chilly dip RECIPE

It is one of the traditional recipes among Mangalore Jain community. Red chilly is the key ingredient in this recipe. It is spicy , mildly sweet as well as tangy. It can be served as a dip or thick sauce. I learnt this recipe from our family friend Jain aunt.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Red Chilly (byadagi 6 + guntur 4)
  2. Tamarind 1 small lemon size
  3. Jaggery one cube
  4. Garlic pods 6-7 
  5. Salt as required
  6. Coconut oil 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Add one tea spoon of oil to frying pan and fry the chillies.
  2. Take a mixie jar, grind together Chilly, tamarind , salt and garlic first.
  3. Add little water. Then add jaggery and grind smoothly to a paste.
  4. In a frying pan, add remaining oil, ground paste and boil for about 6-8 minutes.
  5. Finger licking chutney is ready.
  6. Store in dry glass container.
  7. It will stay good for 15-20 days.
