Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Mutton - 500 gms
  2. Clarified butter - 1/2 cup
  3. Chopped onion - 2
  4. Finely chopped tomato - 2
  5. Ginger garlic paste - 1 - 2 tbsp
  6. Fresh coconut powder - 1/2 cup
  7. Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
  8. Fennel seeds - 1 tsp
  9. Poppy seeds - 1 tsp
  10. Cloves - 2 - 3
  11. Black cardamom - 1
  12. Cinnamon - 1 inch stick
  13. Green cardamom - 3
  14. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  15. Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  16. Sugar - a pinch
  17. Salt - to taste
  18. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  19. Red chilly powder - 1 tbsp
  20. Chopped green chilly - 2
  21. Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
  22. Oil - 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Heat half cup clarified butter in a pan.
  2. Add all whole garam masala/hot spices to crackle.
  3. Add onion and saute when its colors change add mutton pieces and saute for 4 - 5 mins.
  4. Add ginger garlic paste,red chilly powder,turmeric powder and green chilly and saute for 4 - 5 mins.
  5. Add salt and mix well.
  6. Add half cup of water and cover the lid.
  7. Cook in a slow flame.
  8. For masala
  9. Heat two tbsp oil in a pan.
  10. Add soaked poppy seeds,fennel seeds,coriander seeds,cumin seeds and saute
  11. Add fresh coconut powder and chopped tomato and mix well.
  12. Once cooled,churn the fried poppy seeds and all spices to make a fine paste.
  13. Add poppy seeds mixture in the mutton and mix well.
  14. Add half cup of water and mix well.
  15. Add a pinch of sugar,lemon juice and coriander leaves and mix well.
  16. Serve hot with chapatis.
