ABOUT Jumbo Prawns in Coconut Milk RECIPE

Chingri Malaikari or Prawn Malaikari is a very famous and popular Bengali dish served with white Rice or Pulao for lunch or dinner on special occasions. I saw it described somewhere as an “Elegant Bengali Classic” – that definitely sums up this dish. It is so delicious that I want to run down and have my dinner right now instead of writing this up!

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Jumbo prawns 500 gm
  2. Mustard oil 2 tbsp
  3. Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  6. Green chillies 5-6
  7. Cumin powder 1 tsp
  8. Coconut milk 2 cup
  9. Ghee 2 tsp
  10. garam masala 1 tsp
  11. Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  12. Sugar 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Blanch the prawns in turmeric water. 
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan, add sugar and cumin seeds
  3. Add ginger paste, cumin powder, red chili powder and turmeric powder. Saute for 3-4 minutes
  4. Now add the prawns and slit green chillies and stir for few minutes. 
  5. Add the coconut milk, cook for 6-7 minutes and then add salt. 
  6. Finally add garam masala and ghee , mix well. Serve hot
