Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Urad dal ( coatless ) 1 cup
  2. Sugar or jaggery 1 cup
  3. Salt a pinch
  4. Cardamom powder 1/2 teaspoon
  5. Oil required for deep fry
  6. Water as required

Instructions

  1. Clean, wash and soak the urad dal for 4 – 6 hours.
  2. Grind them to a coarse thick paste with salt by a wet grinder.
  3. Make single string consistency syrup with sugar or grated jaggey and water.
  4. Add cardamom powder to the syrup.
  5. Take lemon size urad dal paste, flatten it and make a hole at the center with a finger.
  6. Drop slowly it into the heated oil and maka a batch of batter garelu.
  7. Fry them well on both sides till they get golden brown color.
  8. Remove them with a strainer and dip them in the sugar or jaggery syrup for five minutes.
  9. Remove them from syurp with a strainer and transfer them to a plateNow sweet garelu or sweet vadalu are ready to serve.
