Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Elephant foot yam/ oal/ suran 250 gm
  2. Medium size prawns 250 gm
  3. Salt 1 tbspn
  4. Turmeric powder 1 tspn
  5. Sugar 1 tspn
  6. Red chilli powder 1 tspn
  7. Jeera/cumin powder 1 tspn
  8. Dhaniya/coriander powder 1 tspn
  9. Garam masala powder 1 tspn
  10. Onion 1 large
  11. Garlic paste 1 tspn
  12. Ginger Paste 1 tspn
  13. Green chillis 3
  14. Coconut milk 1/2 cup
  15. Tomato 1 Large
  16. Dry Red chilli 1
  17. Vegetable oil 2 tbspn
  18. ghee 1 tspn
  19. Water 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Clean and devein prawns and marinate with a pinch of salt and turmeric powder
  2. Heat 1 tbspn oil in pan and lightly fry the prawns and keep aside
  3. Cut yam into 1/2 inch cubes and add to boiling water with a pinch of salt and cook till 3/4th done
  4. Slit green chillies and keep aside
  5. Chop tomato and keep aside
  6. Chop half onion and keep aside and grind rest other half of the onion to make a paste
  7. Add rest of the oil to the same pan
  8. Once medium hot add dry red chilli and chopped onions and saute for 2 minutes
  9. Add onion paste, ginger paste and garlic paste and saute till masala leaves oil
  10. Add chopped tomato, turmeric powder, sugar, red chilli powder, jeera power and dhaniya powder and saute till tomatoes are cooked
  11. Add cooked yam and fried prawns
  12. Add coconut milk and rest of the water and bring to a boil
  13. Add salt, reduce flame and let it simmer for 2 minutes
  14. Add slit green chillies, garam masala powder and ghee
  15. Give a soft stir and remove from heat
  16. Empty it in a serving bowl
