ABOUT Ansache Sasav / Pineapply Coconut Gravy RECIPE

This Pineapple coconut curry is very famous in Goa(India) where we also prepare mango curry(Ghotache sasav) with the same ingredients as mentioned here . Anas or Ananas means Pineapple and sasav means you temper it with mustard seeds.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Pineapple chopped into fine pieces 1 Cup
  2. Oil 1 tsp
  3. Hing/Asafetida A Pinch
  4. Curry leaves 6-7
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Shredded coconut fresh/frozen 1 Cup
  7. Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  8. Tamarind A Small ball
  9. Red chillies 3-4
  10. Jaggery as per taste
  11. Mustard seeds 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Grind the ingredients for the masala mentioned above by adding little water and making a paste.
  2. Remove the peel from pineapple. Dice the pineapple into fine pieces.
  3. Heat oil in a heavy bottom vessel, add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter. Add the curry leaves, then asafetida and mix well.
  4. Add pineapple pieces and stir . Cover and cook for some time until they become soft. (This does not take a long time, about 5 minutes).
  5. Add the ground masala paste, salt and cook on medium high heat until the raw smell of the coconut paste is gone, about more 5 mins.
  6. Serve your Ansache Sasam or Pineapple sweet and spicy Gravy with rice or chapati.
