ABOUT Orangy Makhana Kheer RECIPE

Orange and milk combination sounds strange but I have created a new and innovative version and that is Orange flavoured makhana kheer. It has a luscious and creamy texture. It is full of calcium and vitamins. It is a perfect recipe for fasts. Give it a try its different.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Full cream milk 1 litre
  2. Phool makhane 2 cups
  3. Orange segments 1/2 cup
  4. Sugar 1 cup or as per taste
  5. Chopped dry fruits like cashews, green pistachios and raisins 2 teaspoons
  6. A pinch saffron strands
  7. A pinch cinnamon powder
  8. Cardamom powder 1/4th teaspoon
  9. For the garnish:
  10. Chopped orange segments 2 pieces
  11. Chopped dry nuts 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the phool makhana in a wok at a low flame for 5-7 minutes and crush them roughly/coarsely.
  2. Boil milk in a deep pan and add crushed makhana to the milk and cook on a low flame for 10 minutes stirring occasionally.
  3. Cook until the makhane become soft and cooked and the mixture thickens.
  4. Add sugar and mix well.
  5. Add dry fruits, cardamom powder, cinnamon powder and saffron soaked in milk and cook for two minutes.
  6. Now switch off the flame and set the thickened kheer aside to cool.
  7. Add chilled orange segments and mix well.
  8. Garnish with dry fruits.
  9. Keep in refrigerator for 2 hours.
  10. Serve chilled.
