ABOUT Doodanche Fov ( Goan style milk poha) RECIPE

A traditional goan sweet, made mainly during festival of lights: Diwali.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup poha ( beaten rice )
  2. 500 millilitre milk, previously boiled
  3. 1/2 cup grated jaggery
  4. 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
  5. 1 tablespoon ghee
  6. 2 tablespoon raisins
  7. 2 tablespoon cashewnuts

Instructions

  1. Wash the poha with running water in a sieve to remove the impurities.
  2. Grate the jaggery and keep aside.
  3. In a pan, add ghee and saute cashews and raisins till they change color. Keep aside.
  4. In the same pan add the poha and then add the milk.
  5. Let it come to boil and then let it simmer at low flame for 5-10 minutes till the poha gets cooked nicely.
  6. Add the cardamom powder and remove it off the flame.
  7. After couple of minutes when it's still warm, add the jaggery and keep stirring till it gets mixed nicely.
  8. Garnish with cashews, raisins or any other choice of nuts.
  9. Serve warm or chill in refrigerator and serve cold.
