This is a traditional dum alu which cannot be possible without onion.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Potatoes 5 to 6
  2. Onion 8 to 10
  3. Tamato puree 1/4cup
  4. Tamato 1
  5. Ginger and garlic paste 2 tbspn
  6. Almond 10 seeds
  7. Cumin seeds 1 tspn
  8. Coriander 1tspn
  9. Gram dal 1tspn
  10. Oil for fry
  11. Ghee or butter 1 tspn
  12. Cardamom 2
  13. Cinnamon 1 stick
  14. Red chilly powder1 tspn
  15. Turmeric 1tspn
  16. Salt to taste
  17. Curd 2 tspn
  18. Bay leaf 1
  19. Mint leaves for garnishing.

Instructions

  1. Remove skin of potatoes and 2 onion and cut it in cubes.
  2. Add salt and boil both onions and patatoes.
  3. After it becomes soft, drain the water .
  4. In a pan add 1 tbspn oil , red chilly powder and turmeric powder and add the boiled onion and potatoes. saute it 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. In another pan slightly roast all masala ingredients except onion.
  6. Cut 4 to 5 onion in small pieces and fry it as till golden brown.
  7. Mix soaked almonds roasted ingredients and fried onion.
  8. Make a paste.
  9. Now heat 3tbspn oil in a pan.Add ginger garlic paste and tamato puree.cook till brown in colour.
  10. Add the above paste.
  11. Add potatoes and onion to it.put a little water to it.
  12. Add curd here.
  13. Top up with ring onion ,tamato and ,green chilly .
  14. Cover the pan and let it cook for 15 minutes.
  15. Slow cook it for 15 minutes.
  16. Garnish with mint or coriander leaves.
