Vangi bhat is very famous meal in Karnataka and has very unique flavour and aroma of spices. Preparing a jar of vangi bhat powder makes it handy when we need to make a full meal in less time.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 2 tsp - Split black gram
  2. 2tsp - Chana dal
  3. 1tsp - Oil
  4. 7 - Dry red chilies
  5. 2tsp - Coriander seeds
  6. 1tsp - Cumin seeds
  7. 1 inch - Cinnamom
  8. 5 - cloves
  9. 5 - Cardamom
  10. 4tsp - Desiccated coconut
  11. Few pepper corns

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan and add tsp of oil. Add 2 tsp split black gram followed by 2 tsp chana dal. Roast for few minutes until you see slight color change.
  2. Add 2 tsp sesame seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds and 2 tsp coriander seeds and continue roasting on a very low flame. Add cinnamon, cloves cardamom, few pepper corns and roast.
  3. In the end add 6 dry red chilies and 4tsp of desiccated coconut, roast until coconut's color changes. Entire process should be done on low flame to prevent burning.
  4. Grind it to a powder and store in airtight container.
  5. You can use this powder to make delicious vangi bath by mixing with cooked brinjals and cooked rice.
