ABOUT Moong Dal Chutney Dhokla RECIPE

This is a flourless healthy and nutritious dhokla. For best results give it a soaking time of 7 hrs. This is a soft, spongy, steamed and mouth melting dhokla. Perfect for evening snacks and tiffin. It is a good source of protein.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For dhokla batter:
  2. Yellow moong dal: 1/2 cup
  3. Green chili 1
  4. Ginger 1 inch
  5. Dry red chilli 1
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  8. Sugar a pinch
  9. Curd 2 tbsp (little sour)
  10. Besan 1 tsp
  11. Lemon juice 1 tbsp
  12. Water 1/4 cup or as needed
  13. Eno fruit salt 1 small packet
  14. For spreading:
  15. Coconut green chutney or any chutney as needed
  16. Oil 2 tbsp
  17. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  18. Sesame seeds 1/2 tsp
  19. Green chilli 2
  20. Water 4 tbsp
  21. Lemon juice 1 tbsp
  22. For garnishing:
  23. Coconut powder as needed
  24. Coriander leaves a handful

Instructions

  1. Wash moong dal properly.
  2. Soak it in normal water for 7 hrs. Drain it.
  3. Add the drained dal in a mixer grinder jar.
  4. Add green chilli, ginger and dry red chilli.
  5. Add curd, salt, turmeric powder, besan and sugar.
  6. Now beat it to a smooth batter.
  7. Add water 1 tbsp at a time while beating to a fine batter.
  8. Consistency of the batter should be thick but pouring.
  9. Transfer the batter to a bowl.
  10. Mix it well with spoon for 2-3 min.
  11. Grease dhokla molds.
  12. Add water in the dhokla cooker and heat on high flame.
  13. Add lemon juice in the dhokla batter. Mix well.
  14. Add eno to the dhokla batter. Mix well.
  15. Batter will be foamy.
  16. Now have to work little quick.
  17. Pour batter in all the greased dhokla moulds.
  18. Fill 1/4th of the molds not more.
  19. Place the dhokla molds in the stand.
  20. Place the stand in the dhokla cooker and cover with lid.
  21. Steam on high flame for 12 min.
  22. Switch off the flame.
  23. Take out the dhokla stand from the cooker.
  24. Invert dhokla in the plates.
  25. Let it cool.
  26. For tempering:
  27. Heat oil in a pan.
  28. Add mustard seeds and sesame seeds.
  29. Add green chilli.
  30. Let it splutter for a min.
  31. Switch off the flame.
  32. Add water and lemon juice. Mix well.
  33. Keep aside till use.
  34. Take a serving plate.
  35. Spread coriander leaves on it.
  36. Place 1 dhokla on the serving plate.
  37. Spread chutney on it.
  38. Spinkle coconut powder on it.
  39. Now place 2nd dhokla on the first dhokla over the chutney.
  40. Again spread coconut chutney on top of the 2nd dhokla.
  41. Sprinkle coconut powder on top.
  42. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  43. Pour tempering on the dhokla.
  44. Serve immediately.
