Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. For Jeera Rice -
  2. 1 cup basmati rice
  3. 2 cups water
  4. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  5. 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  6. 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
  7. For moong dal -
  8. 1 cup dal
  9. 4 cups water
  10. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  11. 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  12. 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  13. 1 teaspoon salt or per taste
  14. 1 Tomato chopped
  15. 1 tablespoon paste of ginger and green chilli
  16. 1 tablespoon oil
  17. For tempering -
  18. 1 tablespoon ghee
  19. 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  20. 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  21. 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  22. 1/2 teaspoon chana masala powder /kitchen king powder

Instructions

  1. Wash rice 2 to 3 times then soak them in the double quantity of water for at least 1/2 an hour. Rice will be cooked in this water so wash rice nicely and thoroughly .
  2. Take a pan add ghee or oil crackle jeera and add salt per taste.
  3. Add water then rice stir once and cook it on high flame for 1 boil .
  4. Then lower the flame and let it cook till all water evaporates. It will take 10 minutes to boil. Turn off the gas
  5. Soak moong sabut dal for at least for 1/2 an hour.
  6. Put the soaked dal and water in the cooker. Dal and water ratio will be 1:4. Add salt, dhania powder, haldi, garam masala and finely chopped tomatoes, ginger chilli paste. Let it boil on high flame for 1 boil then pour 1 teaspoon oil. Cover and close the lid
  7. Cook it on low flame for 3 to 4 whistles. Turn off the gas after 15 - 20 minutes .
  8. Open the lid, stir and mash with a ladle.
  9. And again cook it for 5 minutes on low flame with half lid on
  10. Adjust water o get the required thickness. Turn off the flame
  11. Sprinkle dal masala or kitchen king or chana masala over it
  12. For tempering, crackle heeng, jeera in desi ghee. Add lal mirch and pour over the dal
  13. for serving, place rice on a dish and pour dal over it, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot
