ABOUT Nan Khatai RECIPE

Nan Khatai are shortbread cookies popular in India and Pakistan. The name is derived from a Persian word Nan meaning bread and word Khatai in Afghan meaning biscuit.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. All purpose flour 1 cup
  2. Gram flour or besan 1/2 cup
  3. Semolina or suji 1/2 cup
  4. Powdered sugar 3/4 th cup
  5. Ghee 3/4 th cup
  6. cardamom powder 1 tsp
  7. Almonds or pistachios slivered 3-4 tbsp
  8. Egg yolk one for brushing.
  9. 1 tsp Baking powder

Instructions

  1. First melt ghee in microwave . Then put in freezer for half an hour .
  2. Take it out of the freezer and mix all the other ingredients .
  3. Preheat the oven at 180° .
  4. Let the ghee sit in the freezer for another 10 mins.
  5. Shape them into round balls and press down a teeny bit , to create a dent . Place sliver almonds or pistachios on them.
  6. Arrange them in a greased baking tray and bake for 18-20 mins .
