It's hard to imagine dosa and Idli being served without the accompanying coconut chutney. With this recipe, you will be able to make the best south Indian coconut chutney in minutes!

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 3/4 cup Chopped fresh or frozen coconut
  2. ½ inch piece Ginger(optional)
  3. ½ Onion, chopped
  4. 2 Green Chillies, chopped
  5. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  6. for tempering-
  7. ½ tsp Mustard seeds
  8. 2-3 dry red chillies
  9. 10 curry leaves/kadi patta
  10. 1 tsp oil
  11. Salt as required

Instructions

  1. Combine Coconut pieces, onion, green chillies, ginger(if using) and Cumin seeds in the blender and blitz till smooth, adding a little water at intervals.Transfer to a bowl and add salt according to taste
  2. Prepare the tempering- Heat oil in a small skillet, add mustard seeds, dry chillies, curry leaves. Pour over chutney and serve.

Nice one. I love Coconut chutney. But here in Gujarat we do add split roasted chana daal ( daliya)
