A spicy curry that can be made with chicken as well.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Prawns- 250 gms, cleaned
  2. Onion- 1 large sized, finely chopped
  3. Tomato- 1, finely chopped
  4. Green chilli- 1
  5. Ginger-Garlic paste- 1/2 tsp
  6. Tamarind paste- 1/2 tsp
  7. Red chilli powder- 1 tsp
  8. Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
  9. Coriander powder- 1/2 tsp
  10. Curry Leaves- a handful
  11. Mustard Seeds- 1/4 tsp
  12. Hing a pinch
  13. salt as per taste
  14. To roast and grind:
  15. Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
  16. Fennel seeds- 1/2 tsp
  17. Fenugreek seeds- 1/4 tsp
  18. Coriander seeds- 1/2 tsp
  19. Black peppercorns- 5
  20. Cinnamon- 1 inch piece
  21. Cloves- 3
  22. Poppy Seeds- 1/2 tsp
  23. Mace- a small strand
  24. Green cardamom- 1 peeled
  25. Red chillies 4-5
  26. Oil- 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Roast the spices under 'roast & grind' and keep it aside to cool. Then grind it to a fine powder form.
  2. Chop the onion, tomato and green chilli finely.
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Put in mustard seeds and let it splutter. Then add in the hing and curry leaves.
  4. Next, add in the onions and green chilli. Fry till the onions are soft.
  5. Now add in the tomato, tamarind paste, ginger-garlic paste, chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric. Cook till the tomatoes are soft.
  6. Put in the prawns, salt and grounded masala powder. Pour in about a cup of water. Simmer till the prawns are cooked and the gravy is a little thick.
  7. Serve it hot with rice.
