ABOUT Choco Filled Banana Doughnut Holes RECIPE

Come, fall in love with these little doughnut holes with crispy, cinnamony banana crust and filled with home-made, 'Nutella-like' nutty chocolate filling, that would ooze out when pricked. Inspired by one of the traditional snacks of Kerala, using the plaintain banana, but being mad about chocolate, replaced the egg filling with home-made chocolate spread.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Plaintain banana – 2 (not too ripe)
  2. Cocoa powder – 2 tbsp
  3. Cinnamon sticks – 2
  4. Sugar – 4 tbsp
  5. Cashewnut – 1/4 cup
  6. Condensed milk – 4 tbsp
  7. Vegetable oil – 1 tbsp + for shallow frying
  8. Milk – 1/4 cup
  9. Vanilla Essence – 1 tsp
  10. Water – as required

Instructions

  1. Boil water with 1 cinnamon stick and cook banana until the peel starts to open up slightly.
  2. Remove from the water and let it cool for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Next, make a paste of this cooked banana and 2 tbsp sugar. It should be a smooth dough without any lumps. If bananas are too ripe, the dough will be loose, so use only not-so-ripe ones.
  4. Refrigerate for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the filling. For this grind together cashew nuts, 1 tbsp oil and about 5 tbsp milk. Grind them to form a smooth paste.
  6. Next add the condensed milk and vanilla extract.
  7. Heat a pan and add the mixture. Let it boil. Once it starts boiling, switch it off.
  8. Add cocoa powder and mix well.
  9. Add more milk if the chocolate mix is too tight. Allow to cool. You get a thick, creamy and rich chocolate paste.
  10. For frying the doughnut holes, heat oil in a non-stick pan.
  11. From the banana dough, take small balls and flatten using your palms.
  12. Place a spoon or two of the chocolate filling, and close the edges to form a closed ball.
  13. Once all the balls are filled with chocolate, drop them into hot oil and fry until golden brown.
  14. Allow to cool.
  15. Make a mixture of 2 tbsp powdered sugar and 1 cinnamon stick and roll the balls over this and serve.
