ABOUT Sambar RECIPE

Dal sambar for idlis and dosa.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup tuvar dal
  2. 2 tsp oil
  3. 2 onions finely chopped
  4. 3 tomatos finely chopped
  5. 6 to 7 curry leaves
  6. 2 to 3 green chillies, chopped
  7. 4 pods of garlic, chopped
  8. 2 tsp mustard seeds
  9. Fresh green coriander for garnishing
  10. 1/2 cup grated coconut (Optional)
  11. Salt as per taste
  12. 2 to 3 tbsp sambar masala
  13. 1 tsp turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the tuvar dal for 15 minutes.
  2. Pressure cook the dal for 2 to 3 whistles with a little salt and turmeric powder.
  3. Heat some oil in a pan, add in the mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies and garlic. Saute well.
  4. Add in the onions and saute, when the onion turns translucent add tomatoes. Next add the sambhar masala, mix well and cook covered for 1 minute.
  5. Add the cooked dal and mix well. Add water to set the consistency for sambhar as per your liking.
  6. Let the sambar simmer on medium flame.
  7. Once the sambar starts boiling, add grated coconut and chopped coriander.
  8. Serve hot with idlis and dosa.

It came out nice. I added vegetables to it too. And in bagar- mustard seeds, red chillies,curry leaves,hing. Adding grated coconut gives it a wow flavour. Thanks
