It is a fish curry with coconut and has a tangy taste from tamarind.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Nethili Fish 300 grams
  2. Oil 4 Tsp
  3. Curry leaves 1 sprig
  4. Onion 1 large finely chopped
  5. Green chilly 2 slit
  6. Tomatoes 1 large finely chopped
  7. Chilly powder 1 tsp
  8. coriander powder 1 tsp
  9. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  10. Tamarind small gooseberry size
  11. Water 1 cup
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Coriander leaves a handful chopped
  14. For Masala:
  15. Fresh coconut 1/2 cup pieces
  16. Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp
  17. Fennel seeds 2 tsp

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl soak tamarind with some water while you prepare the other ingredients. Strain and Squeeze it and extract the juice out of it. set aside.
  2. Grind the ingredients mentioned in for masala list to a smooth paste. Set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Add in curry leaves and fry for few seconds.
  5. Add in onions, chillies and salt. Saute this till it gets light golden.
  6. Add in tomatoes and cook till it gets mushy.
  7. Add in spice powders and mix well.
  8. Add in coconut masala and cook till oil separates from the mix.
  9. Add in tamarind water and cook till oil floats on top.
  10. Add in fish and water and simmer for about 10 mins.
  11. Add in coriander leaves and mix well gently and take off the flame.
