Badeel is a delicacy from Himachal Pradesh.Made up of red lentil with spices to give a delicious snack.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Red lentil(massor dal) 1cup.
  2. Chopped onion 1/2cup.
  3. Chopped ginger 1table spoon .
  4. Chopped garlic 1table spoon.
  5. Green chillies 3-4 nos.
  6. Ginger 1" for paste.
  7. Garlic 3cloves for paste.
  8. Red chilli powder 1tea spoon.
  9. Turmeric powder 1tea spoon .
  10. Coriander powder 1tea spoo.
  11. Chopped coriander leaves 1/2cup.
  12. Oil 1table spoon.
  13. Oil for frying badeel 2cups.
  14. For Chutney:
  15. Coriander leaves 1cup.
  16. Green chillies 2nos.
  17. Garlic cloves 4nos.
  18. Lemon juice 2table spoon.
  19. Salt 1tea spoon.

Instructions

  1. Soak red lentil(masoor dal)for 4-5 hours.
  2. Drain and grind to a paste.Keep aside.
  3. Make a paste of green chillies,garlic cloves and ginger.Keep aside.
  4. Heat a non stick pan ,add oil.Add chopped onion,ginger and garlic.saute till pink.Add powdered spices,mixwell.Add salt.
  5. Add green chilly padte and mix.Fry for 2minutes.
  6. Add red lentil paste and mix .Add 1/2cup water and cook on low flam.
  7. Add chopped coriander leaves.
  8. Stir well till oil separates and lentil looks smooth.
  9. Greas a tray with oil,transfer lentil into the tray and spread with a thickness of about 1".
  10. Keep in fridge for 30-40 minutes .Take out and cut into your desired shape.
  11. Heat oil in a pan/ kadahi.Fry badeels on medium flame till golden.
  12. For chutney:
  13. Put all the ingredients (prescribed for chutney)in a grinder.Add a little water and grind to make chutney.serve with badeel.
