ABOUT Nadan Crab Curry ( Kerala style ) RECIPE

Hefty Crabs cooked in coconut milk and other spices makes the dish scrumptious . Pair this curry with piping hot rice and gobble in extra few morsels .

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Crab medium sized 1.5 kg
  2. Onion big 4 finely chopped
  3. Coconut oil 4 tablespoons
  4. Fennel seeds crushed 1 .5 teaspoon
  5. Tomatoes medium sized ripe 3 chopped
  6. Cloves 4
  7. Green chillies 2
  8. Black whole pepper 1 tablespoon crushed in mortar
  9. Ginger garlic paste 2 teaspoons
  10. Garlic cloves 5 finely crushed
  11. Turmeric powder 1 .5 teaspoon
  12. Red chilli powder 3/4 teaspoon
  13. Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
  14. Coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon
  15. Coconut thick milk 1 bowl 450 ml
  16. Salt as preferred
  17. Curry leaves a sprig
  18. Cilantros finely chopped fistful .
  19. Water 1 .5 cup

Instructions

  1. Heat coconut oil in a wide , deep wok .
  2. Add cloves .
  3. Add crushed fennel seeds .
  4. Add green chillies and curry leaves .
  5. Add ginger garlic paste.
  6. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  7. Add half the salt .
  8. Add tomatoes and sauté till soft and mushy .
  9. Add crushed garlic .
  10. Add turmeric powder , red chilli powder .
  11. Add coriander powder , garam masala powder .
  12. Cook the masala in oil until rich colour .
  13. Add the cleaned crab and water for cooking.
  14. Cover and cook the crab in medium heat for 15 minutes .
  15. Keep checking in between .
  16. Once the crab is half way cooked , add coconut milk .
  17. Add remaining salt .
  18. Add the crushed fresh pepper powder .
  19. Cover and cook for another 7 minutes .
  20. Adjust gravy consistency as you prefer .
  21. Garnish with cilantros .
  22. Drizzle little coconut oil .
  23. Nadan Crab curry is ready .
