ABOUT Sweet and sour chicken RECIPE

A tongue-tickling dish that combines the essence of sweetness and sourness together to create an explosion of flavours for your taste buds.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 450 grams boneless chicken breast ( cut into 1 inch cubes)
  2. 3/4 cup plain flour
  3. 2 medium green capsicum (diced)
  4. 1 onion finely chopped
  5. 75 grams brown sugar
  6. 1/2 cup Tomato ketchup
  7. 1/2 cup lemon juice
  8. 114 grams pineapple (crushed with the juice)
  9. 5 ml soya sauce
  10. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  11. 5-6 garlic cloves finely grated
  12. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  13. 45 ml refined or olive oil
  14. 2-3 spring onion stalks to garnish

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl and add in the flour, salt and pepper and toss to combine well.
  2. Add in the boneless chicken cubes into this flour mixture and make sure they are coated well.
  3. Heat a wok/kadai on medium flame and add 35 ml of the oil.
  4. Once the oil is hot, immediately add in the chicken pieces and cook for 9-10 minutes until the chicken juices run out, and it becomes golden from outside.
  5. Transfer the chicken cubes into a plate and keep aside.
  6. Clean the kadai/wok and heat 10 ml of the oil on a medium flame.
  7. Add in the garlic, onion, green pepper and let it cook for 2-3 minutes till slightly soft but still crunchy.
  8. Next put in the chicken cubes and toss it well with the vegetables.
  9. In a separate bowl, pour the ketchup, soya sauce, lemon juice, pineapple, brown sugar and whisk thoroughly with a fork.
  10. Pour this mixture into the wok and bring it to a boil.
  11. Cook for another 3-4 minutes while continually stirring in between. Taste and adjust the seasoning or sweetness/sourness according to your taste.
  12. Serve hot with a sprinkle of chopped spring onion stalks.
