Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Onion 2 medium sized
  2. Kashmiri red chilies 7-8
  3. Garlic 10-15
  4. Coconut oil 6 tsp
  5. Salt
  6. Tamarind juice 2-3 tbsp
  7. Haldi 1/2 tsp
  8. Lemon juice 1-2 tbsp
  9. Ingredients for dry roast:
  10. Jeera 1 tsp
  11. Pepper 1 tsp
  12. Dhaniya seeds 3 tsp
  13. Fennel Seeds 1 tsp
  14. Poppy seeds 2 tsp
  15. 1 whole star anise
  16. Cinnamon 4 small pieces
  17. Cardamom 4
  18. Cloves 4
  19. Grated Dry coconut 1 small cup

Instructions

  1. Take a pan, dry roast the ingredients mentioned under ingredients for dry roast till a nice aroma develops. Do not burn them or they will be bitter, then transfer it to a plate.
  2. In the same pan, dry roast the kashmir red chillies and transfer it to a plate. In the same pan, add 2 tsp coconut oil, garlic, 1 medium sized onion chopped and fry for 2-3 mins in a low flame and transfer it to a plate. Let it cool down.
  3. Grind everything with 1/2 glass of water to a fine paste.
  4. Take the chicken, add lemon juice, salt, haldi, mix and marinate for at least 1/2 hr.
  5. Heat coconut oil in a pan, add 1 chopped onion and fry it and add marinated chicken mix well and cook it for sometime. Then add the grounded masala paste and add required amount of water, salt to taste, tamarind juice. Mix and cook for 15 mins in a medium flame or till the chicken is cooked.
  6. Serve this hot curry with rice or roti.

Can I use refined oil ? May taste become same?

Am a Goan. We use fresh grated coconut and not dry coconut. rest of the recipe is the same.
