ABOUT Gajar Halwa / Carrot pudding RECIPE

A traditional and famous sweet dish of north india /punjab, traditionally it is made with gajar, sugar, milk but I use mawa as my little daughter loves carrot halwa with mawa.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Carrot /Gajar - 500 gms
  2. Sugar 8-10 tbsp or adjust as per your taste
  3. Milk 3-4 cup
  4. Mawa 80-100 gms
  5. Cashew, raisin and almond - 1 handfull
  6. Elaichi powder 1/2 - 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Clean and grate the carrot. Heat a pan with 1 tbsp ghee and add the grated carrot. Keep stirring.
  2. Add mawa and 3-4 cups of milk continue stirring continuously.
  3. When the milk starts boiling, reduce the flame and cook on a low fire for 7-8 minutes. Stir occassionly.
  4. Add sugar as required. Mix it well.
  5. When milk starts to thicken, add cashew, raisin, almonds and mix it well.
  6. When the carrot halwa thickens. Add elaichi powder. Give a nice stir.
  7. Carrot halwa is ready to serve. Place it on a serving bowl.
