ABOUT Classic Meat Lasagne... RECIPE

An Italian Classic Extravaganza !!!! The tender but firm lasagne sheets topped with juicy meat sauce along with a blend of different spices and cheeses is a show stopper . There have been so many variations made for this lasagne until now but this classic one remains the all time favourite. I also made this with chicken as a variation before and it is loved by the kids more, yet even this mutton mince lasagne gets over in no time whenever made. A perfect dinner party dish at home with a few close family friends with lipsmacking lasagne will surely add sparkles to it.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 3-4 tbsp olive oil
  2. 1 LARGE ONION CHOPPED
  3. 5 fresh tomatoes ; crushed
  4. 100 gm tomato paste
  5. 500 GM MINCED MUTTON
  6. 1/2 cup water
  7. 2 tbsp white sugar
  8. 1 tsp italian seasoning
  9. 1/4th tsp black pepper powder
  10. 4 tbsp parsley
  11. 1 1/2 tsp coriander
  12. 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  13. 1 tbsp salt
  14. 12 lasagna sheets
  15. FOR THE WHITE SAUCE...
  16. Milk 4 cups
  17. Mature cheddar cheese 150 gm
  18. Leek finely chopped (optional) 1/2 cup
  19. Butter 3 tbsp
  20. Flour 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. In a cooking pot , cook the meat or mutton along with garlic and onion over medium heat until well browned .
  2. Stir in the tomatoes and tomato paste .
  3. Season well with sugar , salt , pepper , coriander and parsley .
  4. Simmer , covered for about 20 to 25 minutes stirring occasionally .
  5. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil . Cook lasagna noodles for about 5-8 mins or until al dente .
  6. Drain noodles and set aside .
  7. Prepare the white sauce by heating the butter first and then add the chopped leek.
  8. Next saute the flour by whisking it vigorously.
  9. After it is done, start pouring the milk slowly stirring really well.
  10. Add cheddar to it and simmer it on low flame until glossy stirring it all the way.
  11. It gets ready in 12 minutes flat.
  12. Preheat oven to 180° celcius .
  13. To assemble ,arrange 3 lasagne sheets longitudinally and then spread a generous amount of meat sauce over a rectangular or a square baking dish.
  14. Followed by the white sauce.
  15. Top it up with some ricotta next followed by mozzarella and lastly parmesan cheese.
  16. And thus, repeat the layers until all get used up.
  17. Finally sprinkle all the 3 cheeses over the finished dish.
  18. Bake in a preheated oven on 180° for 20 to 25 minutes until golden and bubbly on the middle rack in a fan assisted oven.
  19. Serve it hot with a favourite salad alongside it.
