ABOUT Qubuli (chana dal biryani) RECIPE

This is vegetarian briyani made in Hyderabadi homes, that include channa dal. A tasty and delicious dish.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Basmati rice- 1 cup
  2. Channa dal (soaked) - 1/4 cup
  3. Sliced onion - 2
  4. Green chillies (chopped) - 2
  5. Ginger garlic paste- 1 tsp
  6. Yoghurt- 1/2 cup
  7. Red Chilli powder- 1 tsp
  8. Elaichi powder - 1/4 tsp
  9. Coriander leaves a bunch
  10. Mint leaves a bunch
  11. Refined oil/ ghee 3 tsp
  12. Salt for taste

Instructions

  1. Boil the chana dal, strain it and keep aside. Do not throw away the water
  2. Now in a pressure pan (I used a nonstick pressure pan), heat oil.
  3. Add sliced onion and green chillies, saute till golden brown.
  4. Then add ginger garlic paste and saute.
  5. Meanwhile whisk the yogurt , chilli powder, elaichi powder and salt in a bowl. Also, wash the basmati rice and cook till half done. Strain it.
  6. Add the yogurt mix to the onions and stir. Add the channa dal, mint leaves and half the coriander leaves. Give it a mix.
  7. Now layer the rice on top of the masala, sprinkle remaining coriander leaves.
  8. Close the lid without the whistle, buy cover the mouth with an aluminum foil so that the steam does not escape.
  9. Cook on a low flame, for 15 minutes. Rest and serve.
